Customer Challenge
Inefficient Hot Water & High Energy Costs
The Code Hostel in Parliament Square, Edinburgh, relied on gas solely for its hot water tanks.
Despite using a bronze pump to circulate hot water throughout the building, the system suffered from considerable heat loss and unnecessary energy usage, as the pump ran continuously.
Solution
Commercial Circo Genie
Energy Saving Bear Ltd installed a Commercial Circo Genie on the secondary hot water loop, with its built-in trial alternating between active and bypass modes. This retrofit provided precise thermostatic control over the pump and hot water tank, reducing wasted energy while maintaining safe water temperatures.
Results
Over the course of the trial, the Circo Genie reduced the pump’s electricity consumption by 45% and cut gas use by 14%, resulting in a corresponding 14% drop in CO2 emissions. These outcomes highlight the significant impact of the Commercial Circo Genie on energy savings and efficiency in hot water systems.
