Hydro Genie Trial in Admiral Taverns Pubs
Hydro Genie Trial in Admiral Taverns Pubs
CASE STUDY | Independent 3 Month Energy
Saving Assessment
Independent 3 Month Energy Saving Assessment
Admiral Taverns is one of the UK’s largest pub groups, operating a nationwide estate of community pubs. Many of their buildings are older properties with poor insulation, high heat loss, and rising heating costs — making them ideal candidates for testing energy‑efficiency technologies.
Objective
To measure the real‑world energy‑saving performance of the Hydro‑Genie® Platinum system across two representative Admiral Taverns pubs during a 3‑month monitored trial starting early 2025.
Trial Sites
Two pubs were selected to reflect typical challenges within the Admiral estate:
• The Malt Kiln, Bradford
• The Punch Bowl, Manchester
Both buildings had:
• Poor insulation
• High heat loss
• Ageing heating systems
• High winter energy demand
The trial took place during a particularly cold January, creating harsher‑than‑average testing conditions.
System Installed
Each site received a 28mm Hydro‑Genie Platinum system, comprising:
• 2 × Hydro‑Genie units
• 1 × electronic control unit
To ensure a fair comparison:
• Thermostats remained unchanged
• Heating schedules remained unchanged
• Operator behaviour was monitored but not altered
This provided a true like‑for‑like baseline.
Heating performance was not inhibited by the installation of Hydro Genie.”

Monitoring and Verification
Independent monitoring was conducted by Hospitality Energy Savings & Sustainability (HESS), who tracked:
• Internal temperatures
• External temperatures
• Operator heating behaviours
• Half‑hourly gas consumption
This ensured transparent, accurate, real‑world performance data.
Results
Despite cold weather and poor building fabric, both pubs achieved substantial reductions in gas consumption:
• Malt Kiln: 24.5% reduction
• Punch Bowl: 26.1% reduction
• Average saving: 25.3%
Heating comfort was fully maintained throughout the trial.
Key Outcomes
1. Proven Energy Savings in Tough Conditions
Over 25% average gas reduction achieved during the coldest months of the year.
2. Zero Operational Disruption
No changes were required to heating schedules, thermostats, or building fabric.
3. Independently Verified Performance
All data was monitored and validated by HESS.
4. Maintained Heating Comfort
Savings were delivered through improved system efficiency — not reduced heat output.
Hydro‑Genie can improve the efficiency of gas central heating systems by at least 20%.”

Conclusion
The Admiral Taverns trial demonstrates that Hydro‑Genie® is a high‑impact, low‑disruption retrofit solution capable of delivering significant energy savings even in older, hard‑to‑heat buildings. With independently verified results and strong performance under real‑world conditions, Hydro‑Genie provides a scalable pathway for reducing gas consumption across large property estates.
